He contributed in helping his club Young Boys lift the league title last season for the first time in 32years. Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu, native of Haut Nkam Division, West Region never stoped working towards realising his dream of playing professional football. His determination and zeal paid off. Back home for holidays after a brilliant season, your magazine met the 25-years-old player whose dream to play the 2019 AFCON to be hosted in his homeland, Cameroon.
The addage «Hard work pays» perfectly fits Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu. The Came roonian footballer, winner of the 2017 African Cup of Nations with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon had brilliant season last year with his Swiss club Young Boys. In effect, the club clinched the league title for the fisrt time in over three decades with Ngamaleu playing a major contribution. The recent African champion’s career started with mythic Canon of Yaounde at the age fourteen. After going through the junior levels of the club, Nicolas Ngamaleu’s talent was detected by the then coach of Coton Sport of Garoua,Denis Lavagne in 2013.
Aged 17, Ngamaleu became one of the youngest player’s to make his debut in the Elite One. However, Ngamaleu proved age was just a number as he played 67 matches, scoring 33 goals during his three season (2013- 2016) stay with the Coton Sport, winning three league titles. NGAMALEU FAMILY MAN
Ngamaleu now 25, is a father of a baby boy with his fiance and has high plans of tieing the knot with her. The winger has not also forgotten where he came from as he frequently visits his former school Government Bilingual Secondary Yaounde where he studied til the clas of « 1ere » (Lower Sixth) before dropping from school to fully concentrate on football. The indigene of Bafang, in the West Region, the last child and lone boy in a family of three (two elder sisters) assumes the role of family head though being the cadet.
ASPIRATIONS
Recently qualified for the Champions League with his cub Young Boys, Ngamaleu is not only dreaming of winning the prestigious Champions League title but above all, he wants to particpate in the upcoming African Cup of Nations to be held in his fatherland Cameroon come 2019. «It’s my dream and I am working hard everyday to achieve it » said the player.
